IKAT

Ikat gets its characteristic soft-edged pattern from dyeing the threads before weaving, using a resist technique similar in spirit to Patola but generally simpler — single ikat dyes just the warp or weft, rather than both. That slight blur at the pattern's edge, which some mistake for imprecision, is actually the visual signature of the technique.

Versions of ikat exist across India, from Odisha to Telangana, each region with its own motif language. We're drawn to its graphic, almost modern quality — it reads as contemporary print even though the technique is centuries old.
