PHULKARI

Phulkari, literally 'flower work,' is worked in untwisted silk floss on hand-spun cotton, using a simple darn stitch repeated until it builds into dense, vibrant geometric florals. Historically it wasn't commissioned from professional embroiderers at all — it was stitched at home, often by a mother preparing pieces for her daughter's trousseau.

That domestic, generational history is part of what makes it feel different from craft techniques tied to royal patronage. Phulkari was always a family practice first.

We wanted that warmth in the edit — bold color, worked by hand, without needing a royal court to justify it.
